WOW. Deception, lies, (oops, no videotape back then...)Anyway---When you've finished this story you'll think back on the actual plot and go..........hmmmm.......I know there was something in there about a mine...a death of a father....some miners.hmmm..but I really only recall a young woman literally throwing herself completely at the mercy of this older, seemingly cruel, posessive and dominating man-to trick him to do some mining improvements..................well, the trick actually turns out to be a treat ..for us as well as our couple ---because somewhere during all that madness they fall in love...........
Ok, the writing is a little jumpy at times-but I think it tends to follow Tegan's (think 18 year old virgin)irrational, immature and carnal thoughts. So the storyline gets a bit confusing as they start their "deal" ( She is to become Sean's love slave-and of course he treats her as one-if she can be a lying and deceitful player-then he's gonna teach her a lesson!) Sean -who was screwed over by a woman-and finds out he can't trust Tegan...well....he really pushes the cruelty envelope.
***** The style of sex scenes are spelled out in the publisher's note--explicit-BDSM-Menage etc...HOT
As you dive into this strangely written ("why am I reading this")...but yet...titillating tale, involving a young inexperienced sex kitten(who knew!?-hard to believe...at first) and Sean (...ahem...wow) experienced in everything guy..........and well,...as the reader keeps going....you realize they actually start to have a little more than just sexual chemistry (*sex scene on the lawn)going for them, maybe just maybe, they kinda care for each other???? Wow-just get to the menage with one of his friends..........Somehow, within Louisa's story you get it, it's not suddenly, like a light bulb or anything, but slowly as they progress in their bad start"relationship"-little things start to fall into place and that's when you really want to know how their story ends.
I can't explain how she does it -but everything fits together and you actually come away feeling like you read a pretty good erotic romance. I would read another.

Reading Lilac felt like an enjoyment of a guilty pleasure. The first 30 to 40 pages were a rambling mess due to Tegan's many inner dialogues with herself regarding her motivation for confronting Sean about his neglect of the coal mine he won in a card game. Just when I was ready to close the book Sean stepped front and center and I could not put the book down. We all know the story of a niave you girl taking the plight of the miners and their families upon her shoulders after the death of her father. Her father was in the process of brining charges against Sean using the evidence he had gathered when he died. Tegan filled with righteous indignation storms Sean's mansion with the craziest scheme to make Sean implement her mining reforms. Of course he refuses and a deal is struck involving a lot of sex. Although the sex was hot and a little wicked what made this an enjoyable read was the chemistry between Tegan and Sean. Their verbal sparring was delightful. And the fact they both could not keep their hands off each other was an added bonus. I'm not a fan of May/December romances but the author did an excellent job of making the age difference sexy. Just when the reader thought Sean was a true cad he makes a decision not to go through with a certain act that totally redeemed him. There is a fitting HEA; I wished the book was a little longer. I enjoyed how Tegan constantly amazed Sean with her thoughts and actions and how in spite of their different backgrounds they really understood each other.
